Explore Cusco | Yoga Hike to Historic Sites | Cooking Class

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will set off with our yoga mats to explore Cusco.  A short walk through the centro and we will arrive at the base of the Saqsaywaman hike.  The grand build of the archaeological site Saqsaywaman remains a mystery today, for the enormous stones were too large for humans to lift without machinery, and the stones fit together so perfectly that not even a blade of grass can pass through.  Many claim that there must have been divine intervention from Shamans, and that as a result the location holds spiritual significance.  The Incas called it the House of the Sun, so it is only fitting that we will practice our sun salutations on site after the short hike.

For lunch, we will be visiting one of the fresh farm-to-table eateries in town for a vegan lunch.

After freshening up at the hotel, we will get a taste of local life at the colorful San Pedro Market.  Our guide will weave us through the market, picking up the ingredients we will need for our Peruvian classic cooking class with a vegan twist.

Delving Deeper into the Sacred Valley

Shortly after breakfast, we will depart with our luggage on a guided tour of the history of Cusco and the major attractions surrounding this sacred city.  Our driver will bring us to Pisac to explore the infamous narrow market stalls selling authentic handicrafts, learning of the cultural significance of this rural farming region. From there, we will stop for a lunch at Alma Amour, an organic farm-to-table Peruvian restaurant with vegan options.  The restaurant is located in the quaint village town of Ollantaytambo (or Ollanta as the locals call it), which provides us with the best surviving example of Inca city planning.

The tour will end at our new home in Urubamba.

We will meet in the late afternoon for a rigorous yoga class to release city tensions and build strength for tomorrow’s adventure.

Experiencing the wonder of Machu Picchu

Rising with the sun, we will set out early for our scenic 1.5 hour train ride to Machu Picchu.

Once inside, we will embark on a 3 hour scenic mountain hike.  You can expect moderate difficulty, with some steep steps.  The views of Machu Picchu below will undoubtedly be breathtaking, and we will savor the moment with grounding pranayama and meditation before descending back to the base.

We will enjoy our packed lunches picnic style and have plenty of time for photos with the llamas.  After lunch, our guide will meet us for a full tour of Machu Picchu, its mystifying history, and its spiritual significance.

Before sun fall, we will board the scenic train, and make the journey back to our hotel.

Tonight, we will eat dinner at the hotel and partake in a restorative yoga class.  Ideally under the stars, if the weather permits.

Zip lining high above the Sacred Valley | Tour of Moray | Maras & Chinchero

Today we return to Cusco.  But first, we’ll soak up the natural beauty of our majestic surroundings by delving into a challenging inversion and arm balance workshop on the hotel grounds.

Upon checkout, we will be picked up for a tour of Chinchero, Moray, and Moras.  We’ll drive through beautifully snow-capped mountains to reach Moray, the infamous Inca agricultural experiment.  This is the amphitheatre style circular stone rings that is frequently photographed. The Maras are where we will visit the gorgeous pools of nearly 3000 salt mines carved into the hillside of this lovely village town.  Chinchero will be a special spot for us to learn about the tradition of weaving from locals.

For those of you looking for a serious adrenaline rush and unparalleled views, we will zip line high above the Sacred Valley.

Back in Cusco, we will check into Atiq Hotel Boutique Cusco.  You’re free to enjoy dinner at your leisure tonight.

Day of Discovery | Grounding and Healing

After a nourishing vegan breakfast at the hotel, we will come together for meditation, yoga and pranayama.  Spend the rest of your day as you wish, as Cusco is one of those marvellous places to get lost down quaint alley after quaint alley until you find something that speaks to you.  Maybe you’ll shop for souvenirs, or visit a nearby museum, or just maybe, you’ll find yourself at Inca Spa partaking in a renewal massage treatment.

We will meet together this evening for a special sound healing experience with the Healing House Cusco, followed by our final vegan dinner together.

Important Notes

Visa Information

A valid passport is required to enter and depart Peru. Migraciones (Immigration) authorities may also require evidence of return/onward travel. Be sure your date and place of entry is officially documented by Migraciones, whether you arrive at a port, airport or land border. Retain the record of your entry, as you will need it when you depart.

Your length of approved stay will be set by border officials at the time of entry, and can range from 30 to 183 days. Extensions are not usually available, and overstays result in fines.

The U.S. Department of State is unaware of any HIV/AIDS entry restrictions for visitors to or foreign residents of Peru.

Requirements for Exit:

If you do not have an entry record, you are not allowed to exit the country until immigration authorities confirm the time and place of your entry in to the country. Depending on the circumstances, this can be a difficult process, costing considerable time and money to resolve. Make sure Migraciones records your entry, and then save the record for your exit. This is particularly important when entering through remote border crossings, where often the proper officials are not present.

Immediately report lost/stolen passports to local police and keep the report. You must apply for a new passport at the Embassy and obtain a replacement entry record from Immigration prior to exiting Peru.

Airport Transfers

You will need to provide flight information at the time of booking to your tour so we can arrange your private transfer to our first meeting point.

Our drivers will be waiting for you with a sign at the designated waiting area of the arrivals terminal, where you will be assisted with your luggage.

Meeting Point

Hotel Costa Del Sol Ramada Cusco

Santa Teresa St 344, Cusco 08000, Peru

 Telephone: +51 84 221269

Meeting Instructions

Check in is from 2pm. If you arrive earlier, you are more than welcome to leave your bags in the foyer and the hotel staff can provide recommendations whilst you wait.  You will have a printed itinerary for you in your room when you arrive. Our first scheduled activity is a casual welcome ceremony at 4:00 PM followed by dinner a short walk from the hotel.

Fitness Level

You will need a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy this trip.  There will be an opportunity for advanced hiking in Machu Picchu, in which some parts are quite steep. There will also be moderate hiking when we visit the Sacred Valley sites, as well as guided walking tours in Cusco.    All levels and fitness abilities are welcome to the yoga classes and modifications will always be offered.

TIPPING

On all included meals, Willow & Blair will tip on your behalf.   However, additional tipping will be at your digression and very much appreciated by the recipient. If you have any questions regarding an appropriate amount, please ask your Willow & Blair tour leader.

Similarly, tipping of small service providers, such as bellhops and hotel cleaning personnel, is always welcomed and will be left to your digression.

For meals that you eat independently of the group, It is important to note that the majority of  dining establishments servicing tourists will include a 10% upcharge for gratuity.  It is typical to leave an additional 10% if you found the service excellent.

Finishing point Instructions

Your tour ends in Cusco. We ask for your flight details prior to the trip to secure your private return transfer to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. Should you be staying on in Cusco or departing for a different location; our staff can assist. Please inquire with us upon booking.

Money Exchange

ATMs in Peru are predominant in principal cities and will generally accept cards on the Mastercard and Visa networks. Please consult with your bank before your trip to ensure your cards will work abroad.  Note that when using your credit card there is generally a fee of 5-10% when purchasing products or services.

While larger restaurants and stores will likely accept credit cards, most market vendors and small shops will only accept cash.

Carrying large amounts of cash can be a high risk anywhere that you travel. We recommend a combination of cash and cards. Bear in mind ATMs are sometimes inaccessible.  US dollars, British Pounds and the Euro are all quite easy to exchange to local currency.  Banks and some hotels will provide an exchange service. Travellers cheques can be difficult to change and we do not recommend them.

Vegan

Peru is not particularly known for being a vegan friendly destination.  The menus are comprised of lomo saltados (beef), aji de gallina (chicken), and, of course, ceviche (fish). Even the national drink, the pisco sour, has egg white in it!  So you can imagine the difficulty in curating a vegan trip through this land of carnivores.

While we have included a number of restaurants that cater to vegans in this itinerary,  we take pride in never compromising atmosphere and culture when traveling.  There will be plenty of occasions when there are only a few vegan options for our group - and usually because we have worked something out beforehand with the chef.   These vegan options are yours to take if that is your preference.  You will never be discouraged from ordering meat, fish or dairy if you so please.  We just will always make sure that there is something vegan-approved to eat for those who wish to maintain veganism throughout our trip.

ALCOHOL

There will be some opportunities where Willow & Blair may purchase wine for the table.  You can either partake or abstain without any questions asked.  If you’d like to order additional alcoholic beverages, we just ask that you pay for those separately.
